They are often forced to drink urine or eat dirt in public.

A total of 200 women killed every year in India for allegedly practicing witchcraft. These events often take place in poor villages inhabited by certain ethnic groups.

As reported Heraldsun.com.au, Monday, July 26, 2010, deaths of the witches were reported in north Indian states, Jharkhand. Similar cases have been reported in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Orissa.

Avdhash Kaushal, Chairman of the Rural Litigation and Employee Kendra (RLEK), said that most victims are often targeted for the issue of land or money.

They are often forced to drink urine or eat feces in public and then paraded naked through the village. A total of 200 dead is estimated each year.

There's even more of those who committed suicide after experiencing a 'court' in public because of embarrassment.

"We find this incident. Witch woman who called us and then killed," said Avdash Kausahl, a charitable body to help tribal groups with litigation and welfare.

200 Figures are estimates based on research conducted by the RLEK in Jharkhand. That figure is also derived from the figures the police and state authorities in other states.

In the past 15 years, Kaushal estimates more than 2,500 women have been murdered. "A law against murder in the name of witchcraft have been enacted in the state of Jharkhand, Bihar and Chattisgarh."

The charity has petitioned the Supreme Court of India to request the chief justice to investigate the murder of these women.
